HP Laserjet Pro M402n Review

Priced well at just under $200, and weighing just under 20 lbs – HP's Laserjet Pro M402n packs a nice little punch for its size and price - and according to most users, does not disappoint.

The Laserjet Pro M402n Design

It's got a compact, simple design with a 15x14x8.5 footprint, so it sits well on a desktop or office rack and is a great addition to an office that may be limited on space but demands quick, top quality printing. It is very easy to set up and configure, so out of the box, you can be up and running in literally minutes.

The M402n is not a highly sophisticated printer, loaded with all kinds of bells and whistles. It is a single function, monochrome laser printer, but it remains true to its purpose and design.

This a great, basic, black and white laser printer to have around. It's ideal for high volume text-only printing, with minimal graphics. Its print quality is sharp and clear, especially when using genuine HP cartridges and does not show any signs of compromise over time.

What it does, it does very well. But it does not have a laundry list of great features and functionality. It's powerful - capable of printing at very impressive speeds of up to 40 pages per minute.

There are 2 paper trays, but 2 sided printing capability is only available in manual mode.

While other models of HP Pro M402 do have wireless capability, this model does not perform wireless printing, so for some, this may be considered a drawback, given the computer must be connected via USB to the printer to get the job done, and only 1 computer can print at a time to this printer.

HP 26A Black LaserJet Toner Cartridge (CF226A) with an average yield of 3100 pages.
HP 26X Black LaserJet Toner Cartridge (CF226X), the High Yield option, with an average yield of 9000 pages.

Either way, this means you will not be changing toner on a frequent basis, which is great news for the budget.

If you value online reviews, the HP Laserjet Pro M402n is a well-liked machine by most customers. It consistently receives an overall 4-star customer rating on both the HP store and Amazon.

The Verdict:

This is not one of those “versatile, do-it-all” office devices, but if you're looking for a simple and reliable printer to consistently deliver high-quality text at a lightning fast speed, then this one is pretty sure to please.
